Looky looky these are fun chair, not sure how pracitcal, but fun! I have been really happy with the selection of Accent Chairs that have been designed and introduced these last few years. You can tell that Accent Chairs are a big part of the home decor industry when you see a HUGE WAVE of chairs in every line. I Love it! I remember back in the day when we had to CUSTOM ORDER accent chairs to come with sofa sets just to make it look more custom and it took forever to get made and they were expensive. So, we are really LUCKY now!

Here's some fun ones. I will be posting fun things all week on my Facebook and here on my Blog... I also am in the process of making a new website and I posted current MARKET SPECIALS on a section of it. It is not ready, so please don't refer to the site yet. It still has alot of work to be done, but I can't wait.

Refinishing My Office/Dining Table

I finally posted this small little project that I have been wanting to do for about 6 months now and just kept putting it off since I never had time to do it. Well, I finally decided to get it done the week of Christmas, because I found the time and my creativeness was on overload during the holidays, so I was up for one my own personal projects.

This is a dining table that I LOVE and personally have 3 of in my home. I wanted 3 to be able to entertain with and I really like square regular height tables. Their REALLY HARD to come by for a good price or your pay about 4x's more through Pottery Barn (which your pay for the brand name). But, this table sits down in my office area where I do all my custom drapery sewing projects on, design boards on, meeting with clients and spreading out all my catalogs, and it's just so much better then an actual desk because it's mutli use and we use it for game playing since it's in the same area as our theater space in my basement. I love my Chandelier, one thing I will miss when we sale our house.

So, to make a long story short, my husband loves scented things (candles, poppery, etc.) Well, he got this popery scented thing with the sticks in it. He put it on my table and one of my kids must have knocked it over. I don't know how long it sat there, but when it dried to my table runner, it took off some of the finish. My NEW table scared... I had to make a new table runner and you never could see it when the table runner was on, but I came up with an idea to refinish it and make it fun, why not? I refinish things all the time, no biggie.

Well, I do love Christmas, I Love playing the harp and the 2 just go hand in hand. My favorite song on the harp is "Oh Holy Night" and "Never a Better Hero"

I will have to post a Music Download soon, whenever I find some time to sit down and record myself.

Your entry sets the mood to your Christmas Wonderland. Dazzle it up. It doesn't have to be much, but just enough. I love put light here on the console. I love the glow of just the lights on all throughout my home late at night. It's so peaceful (especially when the kids are in bed)

Turn something old to new! I had some extra ornaments so I thought it would be fun to hang them from my chandelier to had more color and more SPARKLE. Not that I don't have enough color RED in my home, I just wanted more with SPARKLE!

This was a fun way to use them and do something different this year.

I also used these cute tree looking plants and used them like mini Christmas trees an put ornaments on them and put them in the middle of my dining table with a runner. Way fun and something different.

When in Doubt - Decorate!

Every year I make cookies with my kids. They love to do it and I don't mind doing it until I get about 2 minute into it and remember why I don't back. Many people ask, "what aren't you good at"...Well, there are many things and BAKING is one of them. I use to not be very good cook either, until I made myself learn. But, baking is different. It's a talent. So, when it comes to baking, like myself and you don't think they look very cute or look pretty, you compensate, YOU DECORATE!

That is what I did, when in doubt, I decided to do what I know best,
make them look pretty by decorating. Not, necessarily the frosting, I am meaning more along the lines of the overall look. I needed to find a way to dress them up.
Just like a window without window coverings, they needed some WOW Factor.

So, whenever you are in a pickle and don't have a knack or talent in a certain area, compensate with something that you are good at. My neighbors and friends all gave wonderful compliments, but wait until the pretty wrapping is off an you look closer and it looks like my kids did them. Well, they helped, but let's be honest, I really did try...LOL! I was exhausted after trying so hard. The decorating part was the easiest and most satisfying...

My husband has been gone on a business trip all week and gets home tomorrow. It's been alot of fun doing WHATEVER I WANT TO DO with all the Christmas stuff.
I even rearranged my living room and put my tree in a whole new spot.
I can't wait for him to walk in the door and here all his little
opinions and know that it's already done....Yes, the true thoughts of a decorator.

Welcome My Newest Holiday Decor

Frosty is our newest holiday decor item and he sure is cute. It's funny how I adopted him at last weekends craft fair when 2 ladies were DYING to have 2 of my Fashion Belts that I sell on my Fashion website. Well, they wanted to trade and out of everything I could see FROSTY was staring at me. I just had to take him home and make him mine. So, I did and here he is. My husband is coming home to my NEW MAN as well! He is a great man, he doesn't say much, I always know where he is, and he says the nicest words....LOL! What a great MAN.... I would highly recommend this kind of decor to ANY WOMAN...

Plus, he's really cute. Can't miss that.

and so, that is another great holiday decor post...Until tomorrow when I surprise my kids and husband with yet another surprise I just decided to do...If I can get it out from the very top of our storage in our garage by myself...We will see...LOL!

QUESTION:

I have a design conundrum and I need help! I have an extremely contemporary bedroom set that was a hand-me-down and is SO not our style, but it is exquisite and I don't want to permanently alter it in any way. Any ideas for a temporary "disguise" or ways to decorate around it so it fits into our "glamorous rustic" design aesthetic?

ANSWER:

1st Recommendation: Sell the bedroom set and get what you want...This can be done (I do it all the time). Plus, sorority sister, the good ole' AGGIE DISCOUNT!! If you are TRUE AGGIE, you might even get a BETTER ONE - LOL!! I can ship the furniture right to your door. Craiglist and KSL are the BEST! But....If you really want to work with what you got, well then let's give you some decorating advice.

Bedroom Set in High Gloss Maple:

Since she mentioned that the bed is High Gloss, the only about that, it doesn't give the texture that a "Rustic" element needs, but the maple should give the warmth of rustic into the space.

The hands are pretty modern, but you could actually spray them black. Rustic furniture and wrought iron is a rustic element and that way you don't have to alter the furniture as much. Just a good ole' paint spray can do the trick and it won't look as modern. Silver is a very modern tone

PAINT PALLET

This would be my paint pallet. The cappuccino, dark chocolate, warm vanilla, and white tones remind me of Rustic/Romance, white is very elegant and the wood tones bring the rustic feel of warmth (great for a bedroom space). But, the hint of pale blue gives the feeling of light, airy, whimsical. I personally, would bring in the pale blue as the accent color to all the earth and neutral tones.

"Every space I design is designed around the ultimate trigger feeling. What is the main feeling I want to feel when I walk into this room? It's a great way to act upon our senses. There are a million ways to do this and by adding a certain color, that is one key elements in accomplishing the ultimate feeling of the space"

What is GLAMOROUS?

These are perfect examples of items of decor you should be looking for. My fist thought it fabrics and lighting. Whether that be a statement chandelier or glamorized lamp lighting. I would go with white down bedding and accent with damask pale blue pattern pillows and earth tone accent pillows with texture.

I would love to see a really pretty love seat size couch that you hunted down at DI or found for a great price through DECORATIVE CONCEPTS!!! That you could put in front of your bed. This would not only be functional with putting on shoes, sitting kids on, or just using as a clothes rack....LOL... But, it bring some glamor to that foot board that is so modern and tall.

This is another great example.

Rustic furniture that has been glamorized!

This picture gives an example of using the color Blue, you can use it as a Paint Color or you can use it in accent furniture, pillows, drapes, and accessories.

  Lighting... I am a firm believer in Lighting. It can make or break the statement you want to make in your space. Alot of people don't think it makes that huge of difference, but in the overall design scheme, it can change everything. If this picture did not have this chandelier, would this picture be glamorous? No, it would just be Rustic. My point being, you need to bring in Rustic and Elegant/Glamorus items to get the look you want. Draw the eye to a focal point instead of drawing them to the look of your bedroom set. In a way you design hiding your bedroom set, by bringing in pieces that give the WOW factor. They won't remember what your bed looked like.

Also, this headboard would be really inexpensive to make. You can also buy a wooden door, distress paint it, white wash it, whatever you want. Then attach it onto the wall with a french cleat from Home Depot and you got yourself a headboard. Then you just need a bed frame for your mattress and you don't even need your bed. It can be sold or put it in your guest bedroom.

What is RUSTIC?

You need to have texture! Whether it be wood, rock, leather, wrought iron....These are all rustic elements. It's the design that we all draw to because it bring warmth to a space. It makes us want to stay and relax. Find a way to bring it in.

My first suggestion would of been a different bed that had an overall rustic feel that was inviting and cozy. But, here is my 2nd accessory and decor choice below...

A Frame Montage

I think it would be great to actually have some mixture of elegant frames and rustic frames. Different colors and texture to give the rustic look and not so uniform, more casual.

It would be great to do black and white photos or even Old World Style photos to put in some of the frames (which is really popular in photography right now) and have some mirrors in frames. This would be a great headboard design as well if you didn't want to have a headboard or you could put it above the headboard.

This is a very popular style that is really diverse. You could do a million things, but this is my professional advice and I hope it jump starts your creativity. Wish you the best are this fun project. Find a way to make it personable as well. Let us know how it goes.

“The Investment in Staging Your Home will Always be Less than a Price Reduction ON Your Home!”

It's official, I just passed my State Real Estate Exam! 

What does that mean? Well, my business has evolved into alot of Home Staging opportunities. The economy has sort of transformed my business and I realized that I can actually help people by still decorating, just in a whole different way. Home Staging is the complete opposite of Interior Design, since one is transforming the space into a personable space and another is making it completely a neutral space where others can imagine themselves living. They both take talent in decorating and putting a space together and that is why I decided to get my license. I can not only help people stage their homes, I can offer furniture packages for new home buyers, stage homes for builders, I am a one stop shop. I can help sellers maximize their home values and sell their homes faster! Why not? Except the fact that I still have a young family and time is always the piece of the puzzle I can't seem to put together exactly right, so after I work out my life and schedule. It's going to be a blast....I never stop coming up with insane ideas, it's just me, my brain wears me out! LOL...

Home Staging Report:

Visually, the impact of Home Staging is quite apparent. Staging my son's room

I just recently finished staging my little boys room. He use to have a Queen size bed in his room, which has been handy to have, but it made the room feel small. So, I sold the bed and purchased 2 twin beds since my daughter doesn't sleep in her own room. I also took down my daughters twin bed and made her room into just a nursery for my baby girl. That way both rooms feel nice and roomy. Here is the before and after pictures. I do have some personally designed spaces all throughout my house, buyers will either love it or not. So, I actually included a paint allowance in the purchase of my home contingent on a reasonable offer, that way the buyer know that paint can be changed. Usually, safe two tone colors are the safe way, but some buyers like something different too. I like to give the option. Paint is the cheapest way to decorate and make it your own.

Home Staging

One of the best ways to maximize the value of your home is through the Home Staging process. My personal home is up FOR SALE and I have been in the process of staging my own home. Every time I get new furniture, it's like Christmas. I have been in the process of selling my big expensive furniture pieces and trading out to more promotional staging furniture. My Master is a great example.

I loved my Poster Bed, but to make the room feel big and open, we need to put something else in there to compliment the space. Here are some before and after pictures, I do have more rooms that I have done and finishing up, I will take photos to share soon.

This is my latest cabin project, I furnished a cabin in four weeks. Not necessarily designed and decorated, but I did put together a scheme of furniture pieces that went well together that will go with an overall decorating scheme. This cabin will be used for the owners, but mostly for a rentals. I furnished all the furniture and some furnishings. It was alot of work to get all 7 shipments here on time within 2 weeks and go up for 2 weekends in a row to set up and put everything together. I almost forgot how much work it is putting that much furniture together in 2 days. But, it turned out great. My clients are happy. I am missing all the extra bedrooms, I will have to add those soon. (It is not decorated, it's just furniture, which when you are furnishing an entire cabin all at once, it adds up)... Take a look:

Simmons Leather Sofa and Love Seat Set with Nail Heads - Great Set!

Walnut Saddle Bar Stools - Great for kids and nice and sturdy. Great to use when you are going to be renting and want something durable.

Solid wood Wave Dining Set Collection - VERY NICE and Top Quality. I highly recommend this set to anyone, it also comes with a Buffet with the set.

Then Entertainment Center is nice and big and took some muscle to get in there and put it all together, It turned out great!

My client wanted an extra dining set to use to play games on by the fireplace and for an extra eating area. This space kind of replaced a formal dining area.

I love this rug, I personally have it in my home and it comes with other colors. Great affordable price for only $125...

Berry Color Corduroy Rocking and Swivel Chairs. Nice and soft, should be cozy by the fireplace.

This Rustic Dining Table was a new style at the Furniture Show this year and we matched it up with another companies Leather tufted Chairs. I think it looks great and the chairs will hold up to alot of use.

Master Bedroom has an Artisan sold wood bedroom set. My Client loved the Black Finish was wasn't interested in getting log furniture, which is pretty traditional in the Island Park area. The mattress sets were very nice and VERY comfortable. Great price!

The basement has a huge center family room where we put a big Chocolate Corduroy Sectional and there are 5 bedrooms that circle the center. This will be a great place to everyone to hang out.

Bunk Bed are a must in almost every cabin to add more bedding. These were a great option and really easy to assemble.

This room was very narrow, our only option for this space was a bunk bed.

Cabin Project - Post #1

I feel like I have been MIA for awhile since I have been going nonstop with life, kids, my businesses, my husbands new job offer, etc.. You name it, it's on the list. This is a really fun project that I am currently doing. This is a cabin that I am fully furnishing and it's been alot of fun working on. My client(s), I have mainly been working with the lady of the house, she is great and knows what she wants. But, I just wanted to give you all a little something to look at.

Interior Design, Staging Homes, and Decorating is what I LOVE TO DO. So, whenever I get a project, it's all hands on deck and I am fully consumed and enjoying every minute of it. I will post more pictures soon as we setup it all up. I can't wait to show you all some of the NEW LINES!

These aren't exactly what we are doing, but some arrangements that were presented. These also show you how I do Online Consulting since these client live out of the country. So, basically I can give you design advice no matter where you live!

It's been over a month since I attended the 2012 Furniture Show and I can't believe it's taken this long to share images. I lost my camera that I took there, but I had some downloaded images (thank goodness). I am still updating my website.... I am sorry it's taken so long. I stay up late at night working on it. I decided this year the most important thing is to carry quality products and offer the best price. It probably won't be the cheapest furniture you can find, but the quality will be Top Quality!! That is important to me. Furniture is an investment, investing a little bit more money will provide you pieces that will last forever:

The Zebra Wall

This is my Zebra wall that I LOVE and the wall that everyone asks to come see!
I didn't realize how popular my wall would be, but I needed to do a post about it. I hand painted it and it is featured in my basement hallway.

I remember one time a Realtor walked through my home (keep in mind she is a Realtor) mentioning that once I sell my home that the wall would have to go since it is too young and too buyer specific. I understand what she is saying, but even in Home Staging, buyers want to see different, they want to see design that they could never do themselves, it makes the house memorable. When I walk through the Parade of Home, I want to see DIFFERENT and UNIQUE decorating, but usually I am bummed out and see everyone doing the same copy cat decorating. Nothing wrong with it, it looks fine, but not memorable. Design is ART, I feel like it should start up a feeling, a conversation, it expresses your personality. So, why copy your neighbor, explore your own likes and do it!

Also, "Paint is CHEAP!"

No big deal, right now this is my home where I reside and want to be creative and I LOVE IT! I am always thinking outside the box, looking for a way to do it differently that excites people. I do that in every aspect of my life or I WOULD BE BORED OUT OF MY MIND! That is way my clients hire me, they come to me to give them different, to give them something unique.

Also, I had a lady come down here and she asked me if I was married, I, of course I asked her "why"? She said, "My husband would never let me decorate our basement like this, I just assumed you weren't married." I love the comments, but yes I am married, and my husband doesn't care about what I do because he is confident that it will look great. We have owned 3 homes and each one I have done my thing and he loves it. So....Bring on the comments, I would love to hear them. My husband had major opinions on the Theater, which I could care less about... So, it is what it is and we both love our basement.

I know, I need to add my 3rd child one of these days. I also plan on putting a piano on this wall since we really don't have any other space for one.

We also like to use my wall to photograph the clothing I sell on my clothing website. It always gives a different vibe to the pictures. Love it!

Here are some final pictures of my basement project. A few things changed from the original design plan, like this mirror. I was going to hang it on the Zebra print wall, but later I thought that the mirror would open up the basement and make it seem more open and appear bigger. I am glad that we made the decision, it really looks great there. The zebra chairs were really fun and they actually seem bigger scaled.

I love this 100% wool Cheetah printed rug. It's so soft and it also defines the Theater space. Above the console unit is where are projector screen shoots at onto the wall. The kids really love it. The theater seating comes from one of my suppliers, we were going to go with Leather, but the microfiber was such a great deal and it is VERY comfortable! I also think the lighter color makes the feel cozier down there and more inviting.

I am still working on my desk area. I was debating on either buying another Executive desk to sit in front of my Credenza and Hutch, but I thought a table would be great to meet with clients one, it could a sewing table, project table, eating table, and even a game table. So, getting an extra table really gave multiple functions for this space. It also matched my same dining table upstairs, so when we have big family gatherings we could put the two tables together and seat up to 12-16 people.

This "Red" Guest room was thrown together last minute. I was trying to use items that I already had and furniture and decor that I had on hand. Once I get some draperies made and pillows, it will make everything look more complete. This bed has my feather bed on it, so I am sure out guests will have a VERY good nights sleep when they stay, I might be sneaking down there too just to relax on my feather bed. I need to get on for my King size bed.

This is another guest room. I decided to make this room more masculine. I was think later down the road if Stockton wants his own room, this could be it. This is a full size platform bed also from one of my suppliers, I also got the matching dresser. It's very affordable and really looks great in this room with the stripes. I LOVE the stripes! It was really alot of work, but it made this space feel bigger and even gave it character, especially when it was suppose to be a storage room on our house plans. By adding an extra bedroom, it added value to our home.

The playroom. I have enjoyed this space the most. My kids can make all their messes, watch their movies and cartoons, and I don't have to pick up toys all day through my house. It's really be great! I really like this cute red leather rocker chairs. We bought them from one of my suppliers for our kids last Christmas and we finally get to use them! The ottomans are so handy, they sit back and relax and can play their games and watch their movies.

Hanging Decor and Window Treatments before the carpet -

This week we were scheduled for carpet, so I slaved away the whole weekend taping, priming, and painting the trim throughout the basement (alot of work). I call on Monday and they had to postpone until next Monday. I am a bit sad, but what can you do. On all projects you just have to roll with the punches, it's not worth stressing about. So, I admit, I have been anxious. We have family coming into town on Tuesday of next week so, I decided since we are on a tight deadline, I would go ahead and start decorating. Who says you can hang stuff up all the walls? Here are some picture before the final reveal.

I painted my accent wall to match the fabric that I wrapped my cornices boxes in. I will have some fun swirely patterned drapes coming down that I will install one the carpet goes in.

This is the play room. I made a fun little valance today. These fabric colors are what inspired the paint color selection. I also have a white bead board entertainment center going in this room with little red leather seating.

I do love my zebra wall. Everyone that comes and sees our basement are amazed. They say it's by far a great surprise in the room and unexpected. I am thinking that later on I might buy a nice console cabinet to go here with a flower arrangement of green and white tulips.

This is a guest bedroom. It was a smaller space and the stripes make the room appear to me wider and it makes the room stand out with charater. For a room that once was boring, now I love it! These are some fun frames that I found at Michael's on their clearance rack for $7.00 each. I decided to make it more of an art piece for the room. The bedroom furniture is going to be dark chocolate as well.

This is the wall where our Theater seating will go. We installed a box in the wall to put out components so our kids won't be messing with them. My husband is pretty excited about this Theater area, I am just excited to decorate it. I am sure my kids will live down here.

Home Staging

This week I have been staging a New Construction Home in the Pheasant Grove Subdivision in Idaho Falls. Its a really cute home, it just needed some home staging to make it feel more like home. Home staging is a great tool in a market like this. Helping buyers to see the full potential of the home, can make for a faster sale. This also gives the buyer an idea of how the rooms will accommodate furniture. You can't go wrong with staging your home, just keep it nice and simple. It will be the best thing you ever did to get the home sold. I personally had a home in Nampa, Idaho, that I had fully decorated and staged, in the slow time of the season in January my house was listed for 1 month and it sold.

Painting is ALOT OF WORK, but I also find it alot of fun to bring out my creative energy. It really sometimes is draining because of all the work it takes to do it. But, once it's done, I feel like it's an accomplishment. The Zebra wall below is by far one of the first walls I have done Zebra print free hand and it really turned out! I am so excited, because it's going to match my zebra print chairs for the room. It's all going to look great.

Here in the family/theater room, I still have a really cool design to put on the walls that will match the pattern in the window treatments. It's getting there.

The Playroom was moved to our bigger room. I thought that kids would need the added space and I picked out some VERY VIBRANT colors. It looks really fun and happy when you walk into the room. I have a great big white entertainment center going in here and little red leather chairs for the kids. It will be a blast. Can't wait to have a room for all the toys!

The sheet rock process has taken awhile, but we are glad to say that we are almost done. Since we are working on a budget, like almost all my jobs I do, I went out and got 5 bids for our basement. This is the best way to find out the best price and make negotiations. We really got a great deal, one of the contractors was willing to cut the labor cost of hiring an employee and have Sam help him instead. Sam, my husband, use to do drywall back in the day and it really saved us money and he enjoyed having something to look forward to on his days off.

GREAT TIP: Get as many bids as you can, especially in this market. You can get a good deal!

Electrical DONE! Sheetrock Just Delivered!

We are getting there. We just finished roughing in all our electrical work. I am so excited about the lighting I am putting in my basement. I sell an awesome lighting line and I have it all through my main floor and I have some great chandeliers, sconces and flush mounts that are going down stairs. Can't wait to show you all.

We are going to start sheet rocking today! We expect to be done in about 3 weeks since Sam is doing it only on his days off. I will update more when I have some pictures. I also just finished my 2nd cornice and just receive my drapery fabrics to make the coordinating drapes. I also picked up really cute fabric for the kids playroom, I will post that later. I am going to put the playroom in my design program as well...

Cornices for the windows

I just put together the 1st cornice for one of the windows in the basement. I Love the Chocolate and Green print that I found. It was Outdoor fabric, which is thicker and stiffer. It's not really great to use for draperies, but for the cornice, it really worked out great and helped with nice clean lines. The trim was the expense. The fabric was $6.50/yard and the trim was $9.99/yard. I really liked how they turned out. I will me sewing coordinating drapes in Green and White Swirl pattern, their going to look great. I just can't wait to decorate.

Progress this week: We had the electrician here again and all we have left is the wiring for the Theatre Speakers. We will be getting the sheet rock this week to start prepping for the drywaller.

Everything that I am going to use in my space, are going to be items that I going to custom make, furniture and home decor that I sell, and furniture lines that I personally carry. Everything I do, I can get you as well. This is going to be a showroom, as well as my personal office space.

I chose my fabrics and will head to the fabric store tomorrow! I have cornices that I am making. I will also make draperies and pillows to match. Now since the fabrics are chosen, I can go ahead and find the perfect paints shades.

As I was walking through my Design Program of my basement, I thought to myself that there is too many plain green walls. It just didn't work for me. So of course, I made some changes. You'll be surprised how realistic these design programs come to the actual final space. It's really amazing. That is whats so great about the design programs. For all you who need to see the space before you do it, this is the answer.

I already have all the lighting that I purchased ahead of time from the lighting vendors I carry. Their really amazing lights. I just need to find some Apple Green Chandelier shades.

I also just purchased the big 8x11 Cheetah print 100% New Zealand Wool Rug that I will be putting in the space as well. I have so really great rugs lines that I carry as well. I am using alot this basement for my actual showroom for my online furniture business, so it has to be amazing. I also will be sewing and making all my own cornices and draperies. You will see it all on this blog.

NEW Design Project - MY PERSONAL BASEMENT

I thought it would be fun to actually walk through the design process on my own personal basement. We are in the process of finishing our basement and we are doing it all from scratch. I am going to blog about the entire process and what I actually do on a project for my clients.

#1 Initial Consultation -

This is the first consultation where I meet with my client and take a look at the space and get the sense of style and colors that they are looking for. We discuss the budget and their specific needs. If they decide they want me to put together a design plan. I go ahead and take all the necessary measurements.

Design Program - Here is my basement in different color pallets that Sam and I really like. I obviously like different and bold choices. Take a look at some of the samples. After I put everything in the design plan, I go out and find the fabrics first to see what colors are out there that can match what I want to do. In my next post I will let you know what fabrics I chose and what the color pallet will be....... TO BE CONTINUED

Construction Status: I will take pictures of our basement next time and right now we have the electrical work all being wired. We need to decide on the flooring (contrete staining)....

We had a great Christmas Eve...

I had a lot of fun decorating the table and making the Christmas placements cards. My mother makes the best homemade Lasagna, so I made Christmas Tree shaped bread sticks and Christmas Tree shaped Veggie platters. It really turned out fun. I got alot of compliments.

My family told me I could host every year...

I don't know about that, but it sure was fun.

Today is the day! I am hosting our family Christmas Eve Party. I got out my fine china that I was given at our wedding (first time using it)... I also have all the the tables and seating ready. All I need are cute table setting cards. I really feel like these cards are important. I don't ever want my guests to have to worry about where they should sit, it is all planned for them. Decorating for the Holidays on a Budget

When the holidays are near, we tend to worry about the size of our bank account. Where will we find the money for the presents, dinners, and the decorating? The good news is, you don't have to spend a lot of money on the decorating. I can help you with that and give you some great tips. You can decorate your home with fabulous homemade projects or recycled decor. Your family can also help you in doing this to make this a bonding experiences. So, let's get started!

Idea #1

Create a holiday arrangement, center piece or gift with out door twigs, pine cones, pine twigs, etc. Just get a plastic bag and take a walk with your kids and enjoy the scenery.

Idea #2

Making homemade ornaments. Have you every made ornaments out of Salt dough? It's cheap, easy and great idea to get the kids involved. Use your cookie cutters to make the shapes, then bake the dough at a low heat in the oven. Decorate with paint, buttons, beads, glitter, glue, whatever you have around the house. You could even go to the Dollar Store and find some great bargains.

Idea #3

What I did this year, I went through all my mom's old Christmas decorations. I found some Stockings that she used when we were kids. She doesn't use them anymore so, I decided to reuse them. I went and bought some updated rich red and Green velvet. I sewed some new collars on them and made them my own. This was a great idea and their also sentimental to me as well. Go to a second hand store, go through your parents old stuff, or just try to find potential in your older decoration to make it new again.

Decorating in Fall Colors is by far one of my favorite color schemes. I find that it's so welcoming, it brings warmth into the room, and the colors are so vibrant.

The outdoors are so inspirational, it reminds me a lot of Logan Canyon in the Fall.

It's by far one of the prettiest drives.

This kids room is a great example of vibrant fall stripes and add touches of solid reds and greens. I also like the touch of a quilted throw to bring in a cozy texture to the bed.

This rooms is the perfect example of simplicity. It's quite simple, but the beautiful green walls really give the room character. I also want to point out the importance of lighting. The chandelier brings in the "WOW" affect, you really don't need much more then that. The wood flooring brings in warmth and so does that yellow fabric on the chairs.

This room is the perfect example that you don't always had to paint your walls. If you live in an apartment and you can't really paint. Accessorizing can do so many things. Accessories also can be easily switched out or items you can take with you. This room doesn't have any wall color, but still feels very inviting. The window treatments were a great added touch. Always remember that your windows are the perfect place to bring in color. Another thing to point out, the lighting again makes a "Wow" statement. Always remember that lighting is just as important as furniture.

Renew, refresh, get inspired.

Visit your favorite garden or park, or dream about making your front lawns or gardens a little more special. I love landscapes and gardens with pathways that invite exploration. Gardens that make you want to meander, to spend time and to contemplate the finer things of life. I love all the different colors of green in gardens. You don't necessarily have to have color in flowers to make a garden pop. Try different textures, shapes, and colors of greens. A well placed statue or urn gives the eye a place to focus and center on. A water feature can add a cooling element, and a splashing fountain can be a calming and soothing to the soul. Well designed landscapes with meandering pathways with well placed plantings and focal points are truly works of art using nature as the canvas.

Since we have just moved into our new home, I want a beautiful landscape that will reflect the inside of my home. In Interior Design spacing planning, textures, colors, all make an impact. Landscaping design requires the same kind of skills. I can't wait to get started on my own next year. I do have an Interior Design program that allows me to put my own personal home into the computer and design the landscape around it. So, will see what I can come up with within our budget.
